This is Solid Rogue, a "coffeebreak" roguelike where you play as Badger, a stealth operative who has just stolen plans for the bipedal nuclear weapon known as Rogue Gear! Help Badger climb 20 stories of a bad-guy infested facility to freedom!

Play the whole game for free in your browser or support my work by purchasing the game. Your purchase includes access to native executables for Windows, OSX (Mac), Linux, and Rasberry Pi, as well as the source code and the pico-8 cart. What a deal!

How to play

  • Up, down, left, right to move one space. When you move, enemies move too
  • Move into enemies to knock them out for a short time
  • Tap X to pass a turn
  • Hold Z and tap a direction to peek ahead one space. You can pass turns while peeking too
  • While peeking, tap the direction again to dash two spaces. Be careful: dashing uses stamina which is refilled at every new floor!
  • Bumping into walls or stepping on grates makes noise!

Tips

  • Some enemies see or hear farther than others. The soldiers in white have the weakest senses, while some other enemies might see you before you see them if you're not careful
  • Chests contain health pickups, so if you're already at full health don't risk it!
  • Dashing over or onto a grate doesn't make noise
  • Dogs won't shoot at you but they can alert other enemies of your location!

Special thanks to zep for creating pico-8 and to Lazy Devs Academy for their incredible learning resources.

definitely the most fun dungeon crawler ive ever played on here. the combat in dungeon crawlers have always been my least favorite thing about them, so moving the focus away from combat makes this really enjoyable. although, Im not really sure what the dogs and cats do. also what makes the blue guy special?

Thanks for playing! I also enjoy getting away from combat heavy crawls.

The dogs, when they spot you, act as if you’re making a noise and will attract baddies within earshot. The cats do nothing, they are just a randomly occurring tribute to my recently passed best pal.

The blue guys have the same sight range as the white ones but can hear super far (a nod to the cyber ninja Grey Fox from MGS)

aah i see. thank you :)
